A Community Project
A new Aboriginal art and culture centre for the Barkly region of the Northern Territory opened in July 2003. Nyinkka Nyunyu is near a Warumungu sacred site, the home of the Nyinkka or spiky-tailed goanna, on Paterson Street in the town of Tennant Creek.

Nyinkka Nyunyu
is an Aboriginal sacred site in Warumungu country.
Most sites remain secret. By chance the town of Tennant Creek grew up around the home of the spiky tailed goanna, a powerful Wirnkarra or ancestral being. The rocks are
right beside the Stuart Highway as it passes through Tennant Creek.

Don't be frightened, come in.

Warumungu people invite you to explore Warumungu land, culture, history and language.

Nyinkka Nyunyu ( pronounced ny-ink-a ny-oo-ny-oo) is a unique art and culture centre which offers visitors an opportunity to learn about aboriginal life, history and land in the Tennant Creek region.

The Centre sets new benchmarks in a multi faceted precinct in which visitors have the opportunity to:
* Shop at the Retail Shop featuring local art and craft works, gifts, books, etc;
* Obtain information from the local Indigenous experts at the Information Centre;
* Sit and enjoy a fresh juice or coffee at the Jajjikari Café;
* Visit the Museum/Gallery. Entry Fee applies to Museum and Gallery
* Watch traditional and contemporary performances in either of the two performance areas; AS Scheduled.
* Explore the landscaped garden of indigenous plants and bush tucker.

Nyinkka Nyunyu is fully owned and operated by aboriginal people from Tennant Creek.
